AN IMPORTANT PROJECT FOR THE CITY
The urban renewal work on Avenida Dr. Lourenço Peixinho began. An investment by the Aveiro City Council, which is being carried out by Manuel Francisco de Almeida, S.A., and with an execution period of 16 months.
This is a project o of deep urban requalification of Avenida Dr. Lourenço Peixinho, materializing the project that the Municipality Management had already publicly announced.
In this first phase, the qualification of the Avenue will develop in its most westerly area, between Praça General Humberto Delgado / “Pontes” and the building of the former Banco de Portugal (Zone 1), and in the most easterly area, along to the CP Station (Zone 8).
The remaining area of the Avenue will be divided into six parts, with the construction of the work progressively in the three parts on the right side of those who go up the Avenue, then following and progressively to the left side of it, also in an upward direction. These three parts on each side have their limits at the intersections with Rua Alberto Souto and Eng. Oudinot.
“It was 102 years ago that, between mortar shells and the ringing of bells, construction began on Avenida Central de Aveiro, now known as Avenida Dr. Lourenço Peixinho … Yesterday, Aveiro watched the turning of yet another page in the history of this artery, with the start of its complete requalification. A work that will run until December 2021.” – translated from Diário de Aveiro.
As the Aveiro City Council has already announced, this is a very important project, which creates a renewed avenue, with more trees (about twice as much), without traffic lights, giving priority to the soft modes of mobility and taking care of good parking spaces. It will have four lanes of circulation limited to 30 km / h and with pavements that will greatly reduce the emission of noise. Two of these lanes will be dedicated routes for bike lanes and public transport.
